BAIBA | FINE ART Baiba Ziemelis is truly a free spirit and it shows in her unique and ethereal paintings. Painting with a palette knife only, she layers colors to create rich, textrured art that comes from deep within her heart and mind. She often is not even sure what the finished piece will be when she sets out to create, so the end result is often a surprise, even to herself. Drawing her inspiration from many sources— her family, her home country of Latvia, the people she meets in everyday life—Baiba is an artist in the truest sense of the word. She recently had an awakening of sorts in Hawaii, where she and her husband, OJ, own a vacation rental condominium. After a spritual and meditative massage overlooking the ocean in Kona, visions of color and images came flooding to her mind and as soon as she returned home to California, she began putting palette knife to canvas. Her work since has been a complete departure from what she'd been painting before. She really feels this is a new phase in her artistic life. An inspired and prolific artist, Baiba is very excited to share her visions and creations with everyone. Reluctant to actually sell her original artwork at this timeperhaps one day soon, someone will make her the right offer! However, prints can be made available. Besides painting, Baiba also designs unique, one-of-a-kind clothing which are also works of art in and of themselves. Baiba is also a doting grandmother to her two young grandchildren. Very fit, active, and young-at-heart, she is never content to just "babysit!" She teaches them cooking, gardening and various artforms whenever she has the pleasure of their company!
